District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr. Balaji Pawar seized a hospital being run at Kowdipally mandal headquarters on Wednesday.
According to Dr. Pawar, the hospital – Mamatha Hosiptial – is being run by one Sudhakar, a self-claimed doctor who has only studied up till class 9. He was reportedly roping in doctors from the city and other areas and conducting operations in a room labelled ‘theatre’.
The operation theatre is in such a shoddy condition that tyres and water bottles, among other things, were found to be stored there when Dr. Pawar conducted the raid.
Responding to reports published in these columns recently that a large number of appendicitis operations were being conducted in this hospital, along with another hospital, for the residents of Peddacheruvu tanda, Dr. Pawar, along with other staff members, conducted the raid and seized the hospital.
“The poor tribal people in the surrounding tandas do not know that the hospital has no licence and the doctor is not qualified. Mr. Sudhakar has exploiting these innocent people. We will register a criminal case on Thursday as a case is being filed against the doctor,” Dr. Pawar told The Hindu .
