INC suggests addition of Foreign Language as Optional for BSc(N) or GNM Programmes

The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has issued a notification suggesting the addition of foreign language as an optional subject or course for B.Sc.(N) or GNM Programmes. This notification was issued on 2nd August, 2023.

The INC observes that there is a need to add foreign language to B.Sc.(N) or GNM Programmes, as value added course to be adopted by nursing students. This will give them an added advantage for overall personality development while pursing their degree or diploma programme in nursing.

Hence, foreign languages (such as French, German, Latin, Greek, Irish, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.) may be offered as optional subject or course for B.Sc.(N) or GNM Programmes.

This may be achieved by hiring specific language teachers and the expenditure towards hiring the teacher will be borne by the respective nursing institution. Nil or nominal fees may be charged from nursing students who desire to take any additional language module.

No institution will compel any student to take this optional language subject or course. This subject or course can be conducted after class hours or during leisure time.
