Meity extends timeline for feedback on the draft amendment to the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) has extended the timeline for feedback on its draft amendment to the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 relating to due diligence by an intermediary.

Meity had published its draft amendment to the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. These draft Amendment Rules relate to due diligence by an intermediary. These draft Amendment Rules were published on the Meity website on 17th January, 2023 and feedback was invited from the public by 25th January, 2023. 

In response to requests received from stakeholders, the Ministry has decided to extend the last date for receipt of
comments on the said amendment till 20th February, 2023.

Pertinently, the Ministry had also published draft Amendment Rules to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 relating to online gaming. These had been published on the Ministry’s website on 2nd January, 2023. The feedback was invited from the public to these draft Rules till the 17th January, 2023, a further extension was provided till 25th January, 2023. The ministry has decided that there will be no further extension in the time for providing feedback on this draft amendment.
