The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers vide its notification dated 19th July 2021 has granted exemption from the revision of ceiling prices under the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM) list.
As per para 18(i) the revision of ceiling prices on the basis of moving annual turnover value shall be carried out, as and when the National List of Essential Medicines is revised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare or five years from the date of fixing the ceiling price under this Order whichever is earlier.
The Health Ministry prepares a list of drugs eligible for price regulation, following which the Department of Pharmaceuticals, incorporates them into Schedule 1 of DPCO. The Standing Committee on Affordable Medicines and Health Products (SCAMHP) will advise the drug price regulator the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on vetting the list. The NPPA then fixes the prices of drugs in this Schedule.
