Ministry of Home Affairs extends the nationwide lockdown till 31st May 2020

The Ministry of Home Affairs on 17th May 2020 has extended the ongoing nationwide lockdown till 31st May with new guidelines that authorize the State and Union Territory governments to have the power of delineation of red, orange, and green zones while keeping in mind the parameters shared by Union Health Ministry.

As per the new guidelines Shops and e-commerce sales have been allowed in all places barring containment zones and hotels, restaurants and other hospitality services, except those meant for housing government officials/ healthcare workers/ stranded persons including tourists and for quarantine facilities and running of canteens at bus depots, railway stations and airports restaurants shall be permitted to operate kitchens for home delivery of food items.

Shops must ensure minimum 6 feet distance among customers and shall not allow more than 5 persons at the shop, staggering of work/business hours shall be followed in offices, workplaces, shops, markets and industrial and commercial establishments.

The guidelines have directed the district authorities to advise individuals to install the “Aarogya Setu” application on compatible mobile phones and regularly update their health status on the app which will facilitate timely provision of medical attention to those individuals who are at risk.

Further, the order has barred all social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions and other gatherings and large congregations.

Based on the extension order made by the center AND states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Mizoram have extended the lockdown till May 31, and Telangana has already extended it till May 29.
