A minor fire at Victoria Hospital on Tuesday afternoon caused panic for some time, as several people near the radio therapy section, where the fire was noticed, ran away after the scare.

The fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, also damaged several equipment in the section. Sources said that the fire was first noticed in a switch board in the therapy section located on the first floor.

The fire control room received a call around 12.45 p.m. by one of the doctors at the hospital and a fire tender was rushed to the hospital soon.

In another incident, a house caught fire following a LPG gas explosion on 2nd Road in Shehadripuram near Karumariyamma Temple. No casualties were reported as the house was empty when the fire was noticed.
