Pharmacy Institutions Encouraged to Participate in CPR Awareness Programme

The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is encouraging all pharmacy institutions to participate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Awareness Programme. Hence, a circular on this subject was issued on November 14, 2023.

Details of the Programme

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will be organising this programme. It will be held on December 6, 2023 at 9:30 am all over the country. The aim of the programme is to create awareness and impart training to youth and non-medical personnel to administer CPR.

CPR and Its Benefits

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, commonly known as CPR, is a life-saving technique that can be performed by anyone that is properly trained. It can help a person who has gone into cardiac arrest by restoring blood flow to the brain and vital organs. In fact, immediate CPR has been shown to significantly improve chances of survival in cases of cardiac arrest. Hence, its indispensability makes its crucial that as many people as possible are trained in proper technique.

Tasks for Pharmacy Colleges

Therefore, pharmacy colleges are requested to nominate faculty to volunteer to support NBEMS CPR Awarness Programme. The faculty shall support NBEMS by organizing the event in their Medical College/Hospital/City and imparting CPR Demonstration to the Participants. The pharmacy institutions are requested to fill a google form to nominate a nodal person and two faculties to carry out this programme.

All staff and students are requested to participate in the programme. The programme will consist of a short video explaining the benefits of CPR and how to impart it. A doctor will be present at each venue to answer any queries on the technique. The NBEMS will issues a digital certificate of participation to all those who participate in the programme.

Hence, the colleges are requested to use their auditorium/ lecture hall along with audio support to facilitate the viewing of the video. NBEMS will share the link to access the video and additional details in due course. Institutions are also requested to document the programme with 3-4 photographs that will be submitted to NBEMS in due course.
