Rajasthan Pollution Control Board extends the storage period of hazardous waste beyond 90 days

The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board through its Order dated 4th April 2020, has permitted the occupiers of any factories or premises to store hazardous wastes beyond 90 days.

As per Rule 8 of Hazardous and Other Waste (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules 2016 every occupier of facilities may store the hazardous and other wastes for a period not exceeding 90 days and the state pollution control board may extend the said period of 90 days in certain cases including justifiable grounds up to 180 days.

Therefore considering the outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent declaration of lockdown the Board has taken the above decision of extending the storage period of hazardous wastes beyond the legally permissible time period of 90 days. However the occupiers shall ensure that the hazardous waste is not stored beyond 15 days after the lockdown is lifted, the occupiers shall ensure safe storage of the hazardous wastes so that there is no adverse effect on the environment or human health.
