Manipur Health Services Director Dr O Ibomcha on Saturday stated that new private hospitals in the State will not be registered so as to restrict the increasing number of private hospitals in Manipur.
He made the statement during the 31st All Manipur Medical Conference 2015 held at the conference hall of India Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch, Lamphelpat.

Attending the function organised by IMA, Manipur State Branch, as the Chief Guest, Dr Ibomcha said that people of Manipur, though less in number compared to the population of other States, mostly are compelled to go outside the State for advanced medical treatments.

“People of Manipur are spending crore of rupees every year in medical treatments outside the State instead of treating in Manipur which already has proper facilities for medical treatments”, said Dr Ibomcha.

Manipur is now witnessing a fast development in the health sector and Government of India has honoured the State with many awards in recognition of its contribution, mentioned Dr Ibomcha.

State Government has provided many facilities for the benefit of patients in Government hospitals but sometimes the Government hospitals referred the patients to private hospitals for personal gains.

Dr Ibomcha said this trend has to be halted.

Reacting against the mushrooming of private hospitals in the State, Dr Ibomcha stated that a number of private hospitals have come up in Manipur and most of them had a commercial motive in the name of treating patients.

The function was attended by IMA, Manipur State Branch President Dr Ksh Kala as President and JNIMS Director Dr L Deben as Guest of Honour.

A souvenir of IMA, Manipur State Branch was also released and members of the year were felicitated during the function.
