The SEBI, on 3rd August, 2022, published a notification amending the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Mutual Funds) Regulations, 1996. The amendment provides that sponsors which invest in various companies on behalf of the beneficiaries of insurance policies or such other schemes shall not qualify as associates of mutual funds. The amended regulations will come into effect immediately.
