East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Kaushal conducted a surprise inspection of MGM Medical College and Hospital in Sakchi and monitored the functioning of different departments.
He instructed the hospital superintendent Dr A N Mishra to ensure that all doctors attending duties at OPD and in emergency should have their name plates put up at suitable places which is visible for the patients and their attendants. He also asked the hospital administration to ensure that all doctors attend their duty at OPD and emergency and took serious note of absence of two doctors.
“During the inspection deputy commissioner several instructions were given and we have already started working on the directive and would try to put the name plates bearing names of doctors on duty at the OPD and emergency within this week only,” said Dr Mishra.
Incidentally, the OPD functions from 9 am—1 pm and from 4 pm—6pm daily (except Sunday) at the hospital. On Sunday, the OPDs are closed and only emergency functions at the hospital.
The deputy commissioner during the hour-long inspection also visited medicine and orthopaedic wards and interacted with patients and took feedbacks about the treatment and foods served at the wards.
Kaushal also took stock of the ‘Dal Bhat’ centre initiated by the district administration near the entrance gate of the hospital for the poor. The centre provides Rs 5 meals comprising rice, dal and a mixed vegetable dish to poor (BPL category) under the state government scheme.
The deputy commissioner also instructed the hospital administration to carry out tenders for the canteen and start canteen services for the attendants and relatives visiting the hospital. He also held a meeting with the hospital administration about shortcomings in the hospital and steps taken to overcome it. “We presented our action plan for improving functioning of the hospital and the deputy commissioner was satisfied with it. We will be acting on his directives and those doctors found absent have been asked to explain their position,” said Dr A N Mishra.
The MGMCH is a Government hospital with the facility of 540 beds. Everyday around 1000 patients come here for treatment. Several times parts of ceiling and windows have collapsed four times in the government hospital. Due to lack of repair work and attention of the authorities concerned, the condition of the hospital has deteriorated to a great extent.
It may be mentioned that State Government governed Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital, is an Indian medical school established in 1964. The college’s hospital is located in Sakchi.
