BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has levied penalties on a hospital and a few eateries in Yeshwantpur for not maintaining hygiene on their premises.

BBMP’s Health Committee members and Health Department officials inspected Mantri Mall and People Tree Hospital on Tuesday.

Speaking to Express, Mujahid Pasha, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Health, said the two venues were picked randomly for the surprise inspection.

“We found that mixed waste was being sent out from People Tree Hospital. Regular waste was mixed with biomedical waste. Also, their canteen was not properly maintained. We levied a penalty of `53,000,” he said. Later, the team visited Mantri Mall where they cracked down on unhygienic eateries including KFC, Pizza Hut and Oval Bar.

“At these places, they were not segregating waste. Also, they were using plastic of less than 40 microns which we seized. In all, we levied a penalty of `17,000,” he said.  He added that they will soon be visiting junk food eateries.
