Steel Ministry Suspends Enforcement of Several BIS Standards Under QCO for 1–3 Years

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025 through Notification S.O. 5134(E) dated 20 November 2025. Exercising its powers under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, the Central Government has suspended the enforcement of several Indian Standards (IS) referenced in the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

The amendment aims to provide temporary regulatory relief and support industry preparedness by deferring compliance timelines for numerous steel-related standards.

1. Immediate Enforcement

The Amendment Order comes into force from its publication date in the Official Gazette. NOVEMBER 20,2025.

2. Suspension of Enforcement for 3 Years

The following IS numbers listed under Schedule 1 will not be operative for a period of 3 years from the date of publication:
