EPFO Increases Ex-Gratia Under Death Relief Fund to ₹15 Lakh

In a significant move to support the families of its employees, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced the enhancement of the ex-gratia amount payable under the Death Relief Fund. The ex-gratia amount, previously set at ₹8.80 lakh, has now been increased to ₹15 lakh for the families of deceased employees of the Central Board.

The notification, issued with reference to earlier communications from EPFO headquarters, confirms that the enhanced amount will be applicable with effect from April 1, 2025.

Key Highlights of the Notification:

  • New Ex-Gratia Amount: ₹15,00,000 (Rupees Fifteen Lakh only)
  • Beneficiaries: Family members (nominee or legal heirs) of the deceased employees of the Central Board, EPFO
  • Source of Funds: Staff Welfare Fund
  • Effective Date: April 1, 2025
  • Annual Increment: 5% increase in the ex-gratia amount starting from April 1, 2026

This decision was approved by the Central Provident Fund Commissioner, who also serves as the President of the Central Staff Welfare Committee.

By enhancing this financial assistance, EPFO aims to provide stronger support to the bereaved families of its employees, acknowledging their service and ensuring a measure of financial security during difficult times.
