In a progressive move aimed at enhancing women’s participation in the industrial workforce, the Government of Puducherry has issued a notification allowing women workers to be employed in factories up to 10:00 PM.
The notification is issued under the proviso to clause (b) of subsection (1) of Section 66 of the Factories Act, 1948, which empowers state governments to modify working hour restrictions for women under specific conditions.
🔑 Key Highlights of the Notification:
Revised Working Hours:
- Women are now permitted to work in factories up to 10:00 PM.
- However, no woman shall be employed between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
Mandatory Transport Facilities:
- Employers must provide free transport for women workers to their residences after their shift ends at or before 10:00 PM.
Work Schedule Display:
- Factories must exhibit a notice of periods of work in compliance with Section 61 of the Factories Act and Rule 87 of the Puducherry Factory Rules, 1964, using Form No. 11.
Compliance with Daily Working Hours:
- The daily work hour limit as stated in Section 54 of the Factories Act, 1948 must be strictly followed.
Worker Records Maintenance:
- Details of women employees working under this provision must be maintained in Form No. 27, as per Rule 118 of the Puducherry Factory Rules, 1964.
