HP to Revise Minimum Wages Across 19 Employment Sectors

The Government of Himachal Pradesh has proposed a comprehensive revision of minimum wages for unskilled and other categories of workers across a wide range of scheduled employments. The new wage rates will come into effect from April 1, 2025.

This decision reflects the state’s commitment to ensuring fair compensation and social security for workers in both the organized and unorganized sectors.

📌 Key Sectors Affected by the Wage Revision

The minimum wage revision will apply to the following 19 scheduled employments:

  1. Agriculture
  2. Construction or Maintenance of Roads/Buildings, Stone Breaking, and Stone Crushing
  3. Public Motor Transport
  4. Shops and Commercial Establishments
  5. Forestry Industries
  6. Chemical and Chemical Products
  7. Engineering Industries
  8. Tea Plantation
  9. Manufacturing Processes (as defined in clause (k) of Section 2, Factories Act, 1948)
  10. Hotels and Restaurants
  11. Private Educational Institutions
  12. Hydro Power Projects
  13. Pharmaceutical Industries
  14. Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and Clinics
  15. Domestic Workers
  16. Safai Karamchari Employment
  17. Security Services
  18. Temples, Religious Places, and Dharamshalas
  19. Toll Tax Barriers

🛠️ Purpose of the Revision

The wage revision aims to:

  • Reflect the increased cost of living
  • Ensure better livelihood standards for workers
  • Bring parity in compensation across sectors
  • Protect vulnerable workers, especially in the unskilled category
