Haryana Allows Women to Work Night Shifts in Select Sectors

The Government of Haryana has issued a comprehensive notification allowing women employees to work night shifts (8 PM to 6 AM) in specific sectors such as IT, ITeS, banking, three-star and above hotels, 100% export-oriented units, logistics, and warehousing.   3. POSH Act Compliance:
    Employers must prevent and address sexual harassment in line with the POSH Act, 2013. Submission of the Annual Return under the Act to both the District Authority and Labour Commissioner is mandatory.
  4. Consent Requirement:
    Written consent from women employees for night duty is mandatory and must be available for inspection.
  5. Workplace Safety Measures:
    • Adequate lighting inside and around the premises.
    • Sufficient security guards must be posted during night shifts.
  6. Transport Arrangements:
  1. Pick-up and drop must be provided.
  2. Vehicles must include trained drivers, female security guards, GPS, and CCTV.
  3. Women can opt-out of this facility by giving written consent.
  4. Minimum Staffing Requirement:
  1. Women must work in groups of at least four per shift.
  2. Exception: In IT/ITeS, a senior woman employee (earning over ₹1 lakh/month) may work alone if she consents.
  3. Medical Facilities:
  1. Doctor or female nurse to be available.
  2. Emergency tie-ups with hospitals and display of emergency numbers is required.
  3. Boarding and Lodging (if provided):
  4. Must be women-only and managed by female wardens or supervisors.

    Employers must continue to follow all applicable labour laws, including the Equal Remuneration Act, ESI, and Haryana Labour Welfare Fund obligations.
  2. Partial or Full Night Employment:
    Women may be employed fully or partially during night hours, provided all conditions are met.
